Any conventional account of the life of Edward Montagu,3rd Baron Montagu of Beaulieu,will describe his passion for motorcars,which led to the founding of the National Motor Museum at his Hampshire home,his accession to the Montagu barony before his third birthday,his membership of the House of Lords for more than fifty years,founder chairman of both the Historic Houses Association and English Heritage,and his lifetime championship of Tourism. But his 'Who's Who' entry makes no mention of what became known as 'the Montagu Case',an event in his life in the early 1950s that had a direct influence on the changing of the law regarding consenting adult homosexuals.
