Collection of four original black-and-white photographs relating to Halifax Church and David C. Paton. Each of the photos is mounted on board. Circa 1880s. The back of the Halifax Church photo has a dateline reading, "Halifax, 18 Oct. 1886." Halifax Church photo: 16 1/2" x 11." Wedding photo: 14" x 10." David C. Paton portraits: 7 1/2" x 9 1/2" photos on 13 3/4" x 10 3/4" board. The Halifax Church and wedding photos have about the same measurements as those of their boards. Each of the photos is very clean and intact overall except for light age toning and slight wear to extremities. Boards are clean and intact overall but have age toning, offsetting on back, and slight wear to extremities including a few small bumps and chips. Each of the photos and boards and the collection as a whole are Very Good. A unique collection of four original photos relating to the Halifax Church and David C. Paton. The Halifax Church is also known as Halifax Minster. It received minster status in 2009. Halifax Church is located in Halifax, Calderdale, West Yorkshire, England. David C. Paton was a mill owner. The two photos of Paton are formal portraits. "Beauman, Photographer, 91 Main St., Thompsonville, Conn." stamped in black ink on back of both of Paton's portraits. Paton is shown wearing a suit in both photos. One of the photos shows Paton seated at a table, about from the waist upward, with a book lying open as he faces viewers. In his other portrait, Paton is shown in a 3/4 turn, from about the chest upward, as he looks off to the left. The wedding photo was taken on the grounds of an unnamed estate or church. It is unclear whether the wedding photo was taken in England or the United States. There are over fifty people shown in the photo with the bride and groom at center. Paton is the fourth person to the left of the bride. The last photo shows Halifax Church in the town square. Halifax Church stands on the spot of a Norman church dating back to about 1120. The current church, the same as the one shown in the photo, was completed in the fifteenth century and is dedicated to St. John the Baptist. Parts of the twelfth-century Norman church are incorporated into the architecture of the present Halifax Church. Over the years, Halifax Church has undergone several restorations and renovations.
