Beaumont, André (Lieut. J. Conneau) : My Three Big Flights. With a Sonnet by Edmond Rostand and Sixty Illustrations

(London, G. Bell & Sons, 1912, 1st edition)

Bell's Indian and Colonial Library edition. 8vo; original blue blind-stamped cloth; spine gilt; pp. xii + 156; tissue-guarded frontis.; several photographic plates. Some wear to extremities of boards; small penned (ownership?) mark on front free endpaper; scattered foxing, which is quite pronounced in places; tissue-guard rather browned; two leaves of prelims. unopened; one plate has worked loose, but all plates are present. Fair to good condition. Jean Conneau, the most outstanding racing pilot of his era, employed the pseudonym André Beaumont because flying was viewed as frivolous by his superiors in the French navy. His scientifically thorough approach to flying is evident from the very outset in this account of his victory in three major 1911 races: the Paris-Rome race, the Circuit of Europe, and the Circuit of Britain.
