Benjamin ben Jonah of Tudela, who made his famous trip during the second half of the 12th century, was the "greatest medieval Jewish traveler. " From Spain, he reached Italy, Greece, Turkey, Iraq Palestine, and Egypt, on a trip that lasted between 5 and 14 years. The start date is unsure, but he returned to Spain in 1172 or 73.
