Inscribed and signed by Bernstein on the frontispage : "To Herman L Karnovsky - with warm regard deep respect for his quiet yet invaluable contribution to the rise of South African Zionism - Edgar Bernstein - 19/3/63". Signed again by Edgar Bernstein on the certification page. Karnovsky was one of the most successful of the generation of Lithuanian Jews who migrated to South Africa (he began his business during the gold rush, selling panning equipment to the men going towards the gold areas, and perfume to those leaving!). The boards are benevolent, benign. They have light rubbing and wear. The papertrims have light foxing. The contents are most agreeable.
