The Author, 1795

Complete. 716 tables plus index. A very large, heavy book. An absolute MUST for EVERY Genealogical addict/ nerd! Dedicated to George III (on his birthday), this is a most diligent, energetically researched and created and presented book. Rather daringly it begins with Adam! together with date of death and his age (930). Rather tellingly there are no dates for Eve. Other tables are for Chaldean Kings before the Flood, from Berosus; Gods and Demigods, who are supposed to have reigned in Egypt; Sharifs, or Emperors of Morocco; Kings of the Visigoths in Spain; Princes of Roche-sur-Yon, and Dukes of Montpensier with the Natural Children of Henry 4 and Lewis 14, Kings of France; Dukes of the Boiarians in Bavaria; Silesian Dukes of Liegnitz, Brieg, Schweidnitz, Jauer, Munsterberg, Wolau and Lubben, of the Line of Piastus; Kings of Ireland before the Flood (starting with Adam!); Kings and Princes of the Gadelians, till they landed in Ireland; and ending most carefully with the House of Cromwell. And so on and so forth. An extraordinary work by any intention or expectation. From the library of Garratt Hall (on and off residence of the Lambert family) in Surrey (the library was sold over 10 years through Sothebys, from 1919-1930). There is a gift inscription, on a free page, to Frederick Arthur Heygate Lambert - an Eton educated Surrey antiquary and gentleman (dated: February 9th 1880). Quarter bound in leather. Camel coloured boards. The front board has the family Lambert crest with the esquire helmet (stamped with gilt - in pleasing condition). The boards have wear and scuffing and some marks from handling and shelving. The leather corners are much worn, but carry with them a venerable manner. The spine has recently been repaired with a leather strip. The original leather spine sides are scuffed and worn, but benign and placid. The front pastedown has an ex-libris plate (Myra D Conradie). The guttering along the frontispage is cracked along the length but the security of the book is quite unaffected. Handpressed paper. In pleasant condition. The tables have annotations - Roman numerals translated to Arabic numbers. The pages are most satisfactory. They are clean, clear, very confident, overwhelmingly generous, very healthy. Especially taking the age of the book into account the pages are in excellent health and spirit. An addictive, fascinating book. fk. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: Hardcover. Jacket: No Jacket
