"William James Bennett, born in England, 1789, he died in New York, 1844. He came to that city in 1816 as a landscape painter in watercolour, and an engraver in aquatint. He was elected an associate member of the National Academy of Design and an academician in 1828; for some years, he was the curator of the Academy." (Fieldings 64).
