No owner inscrptn and an absence of publisher's price - if one ever printed - and a near complete clear sellophane dw/dj,but for the minutest of loss to front lower and rear upper corners' tips - no other nicks,tears,splits or any other loss present.Publisher's bright,crisp, clean,matt,wrap-around,sharp-cornered original cream faux-vellum covered boards with a bright, crisp,blocked,gilt edged bordered royal blue horizontally divided rectangular panel with a single line capitalised,blocked gilt lettered BIBLIOTHECA AUSTRALIANA to top division of panel and three lined bright,crisp,blocked,capitalised author+part-title thus: 'COOK', 'JOURNAL' beneath and 'OF A VOYAGE IN H.M.S. ENDEAVOUR' below that in the lower division,placed on the upper board; spine/backstrip with a bright, crisp,blocked,gilt edged/bordered royal blue vertical,rectangular panel with bright,crisp, blocked author surname - COOK - to head of panel and bright,crisp,blocked,descending capitalised gilt-lettered title to centrally placed panel; capitalised,initialled gilt-lettered BA to head of spine and capitalised,gilt-lettered publisher's names: ISRAEL and DA CAPO with a gilt dividing line between them,to foot of spine; rear panel bright crisp,unblemished plain cream without text or decoration. Negligible shelf-wear,no bumping,no creasing to edges and corners - no nicks,tears or splits present. Top+ fore-edges lightly toned but still bright,crisp, clean without foxing/spotting; contents bright, tight,clean,solid and sound - virtually pristine - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corner tips,appears unread apart from my own collation.A cream headband and immaculate plain white endpapers.UK,Qrto HB+cellophane dw/dj,1st edn thus,2-130pp [paginated] includes facsimile account of the journey with diary dates etc., plus [unpaginated] half-title+title pages,and to the rear as last pages,a 3pp concise A-W vocabulary and numbers 1 -20 and a further 2pp blanks. See also my book ID rja1092223 - an illustrated account of Cook's  3 voyages: 1768 –1771 – 1772–1775 and 1776- 1780.     Visually the exterior appearance is exceptional,and particularly internally,the book is also in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation for a book of its 55+ year-old age and nature, i.e. an ephemeral facsimile item.It really is an exceptional, exemplary example for its cleanliness,brightness and almost complete lack of detracting faults.A superb,uncommon item,particularly in as high a grading as this is.No annotations and NOT a public or private library owned item.   Frank Cass (b.11th July,1930 – d. 9th August, 2007) was a British publisher.The founder of Frank Cass & Co.,an imprint of books and journals of history and the social sciences acquired by Taylor & Francis in 2003.            He began his career as a bookseller at The Economist Bookshop in  Blloomsbury,central London.In 1953,he opened his own bookshop on Southampton Row. Cass founded the publishing imprint,Frank Cass & Co.,in 1957.He at first published books of history and the social sciences whose copyright had expired.He later published new research, including biographies and military histories.By the late 1960s,he had purchased the Woburn Press,a publishing house of works of literature. He also started publishing academic journals, beginning with Middle Eastern Studies in 1964, later titles included Jewish Culture and History,and Holocaust Studies - these titles he was to keep ownership of,when he sold the company to Taylor & Francis in 2003.              Cass went on to purchase Vallentine Mitchell,an imprint of Jewish books,in 1971.In 1972,he purchased the scripts of 'The Goon Show'.In 1974,he purchased the Irish Academic Press,which included the 1,000 volumes of British Parliamentary Papers from 1801 to 1901.          Cass made much of his wealth through the Irish Academic Press.He also founded Vallentine Mitchell Academic in 2003.He died on 9th August 2007,at the age of 77.                            Please contact seller,because of the lighter weight and item's value,for correct,insured shipping/P+p quotes - particularly ALL overseas buyers - BEFORE ordering through the order page!  N.B.
