'For the Love of Bees' tells the truly remarkable story of the world's foremost beebreeder,Brother Adam OBE,DSc,OSB.As a boy just over eleven years old,he was sent from his home in Southern Germany to join the order of Benedictine monks at Buckfast in Devon at the time of the great rebuilding of the Abbey.Ill-health prompted his move from building work to a lifetime's involvement with the Abbey's apiaries; his development of the beekeeping enterprise is fully described against a backcloth of monastic life. The disastrous Isle of Wight epidemic which caused wholesale loss of bees in the British Isles at the outbreak of the First World war was to shape the bee-breeding programme that Adam was to follow, which included the study and collection of honey-bees from all countries bordering on the Mediterranean, north and south, penetrating to the Sahara itself and beyond to east Africa. Now in his ninetieth year (then 1989),Adam's work continues and his achievements are an inspiration to all would-be beekeepers.
