Hand-made paper, original wood engravings, personal pride all combined to make exquisite copies of their books. No more than 750 copies were produced. The end page reads: ". was printed at the Golden Cockerel Press, Waltham Saint Lawrence, Berks under the direction of ROBERT GIBBINGS; & completed on the 16th day of July , 1925. Compositors: A H Gibbs and F Young. Pressman: A C Cooper & W R Mills." This copy is hand-numbered 186 of a limited edition of 450 copies. The hand-made paper with an anvil and mallet watermark. The gilt Golden Cockerel colophon on the title page is fresh, agleam. Gibbings knew nearly all the wood-engravers of his time. Annersley was a young, upcoming, promising and this title was one of her prominent early publications. Coppard had been involved with the press since its early days. Newly graduated, he had been among 'The New Elizabethans' at Oxford. His short-stories were profoundly influential. This is a comfortable copy. The boards are worn, scuffed, sunned.
