An unwary uncle agrees to spend his vacation with his sister & her children. Helen's brother-in-law narrowly survives a day of babysitting. The author, John Habberton (1842-1921), was a noted humorist and editor for many of the leading magazines of his day. Although this small book was his first literary success, one of the humorous classics of its time, he chose not to issue it under his own name, seeing it as an undignified performance. The account of two boys, whom he represents as talking in an odd mix of baby talk and phony piety, found a sale of 250,000 copies in the U.S. and was almost equally successful abroad when it Came out.
