Twenty-three poems in English, with Hebrew translation on facing page. Byron wrote these in 1815 as lyrics to accompany "'Hebrew Melodies' some of them upwards of 1000 years old" being published by Jewish composer Isaac Nathan. Mandelkern was a Russian poet, author, and rabbi. He "was a prolific writer in several languages, especially in Hebrew, in which he produced poetical works of considerable merit.
