First Edition (first printing). 8vo. 257pp. Black cloth lettered in silver at the spine. Portrait frontispiece. Free endpapers lightly spotted. A very good copy in slightly chafed and discoloured non-price-clipped dust wrapper, with a sliver of loss from the head of the spine panel. Laid in are several newspaper clippings, a photograph of Strauss which he has inscribed and initialled in ink, and a copy of his T.E.Brown prize-winning poem 'Rome' (March 1930), stapled into the original printed wrappers and inscribed by the author on the inner front wrapper. The journals of A.C.Strauss, promising Oxford poet and pre-war barrister, who was accidentally killed in December 1944 whilst serving with in Italy with the King's Royal Rifle Corps.. Book.
