A contemporary ink note, below the presentation inscription states: "Before going to India as Viceroy Lord Dufferin wished to improve his pictures by taking some lessons & he was recommended to go Mr. N.E. Green & did so. - Mr. Green told him that every hour of his day was booked. Lord D. asked whether Mr. G. had any engagements at 7 a.m., and fisting his hand told Smith "The you may expect me every morning at seven".
