Top edge dust soiled, and with some spotting to the edges, endpapers, and to half a dozen preliminary and concluding leaves. A very good copy in non-price-clipped dust wrapper, lightly dust soiled at the rear panel, and chipped at the upper edge with several millimetres of loss to the whole. The author's first book, this UK edition considerably enhanced by the presence of the dust wrapper designed by Edward Ardizzone (accredited simply to 'E.J.I.A') - one of Ardizzone's very first commissions, this artwork is not noted by Alderson, and whilst it lacks any of his developed features it remains really quite striking..
