EDWARD GOREY (writing as 'Ogdred Weary') : The Curious Sofa. (SIGNED)

Dodd, Mead & Co., New York, 1980

A re-issue, and the first English-language casebound edition. This copy signed by the author on the title page using his anagrammed pseudonym. Small 8vo. Unpaginated. Paper-covered boards. A tiny hint of wear to two or three extremities, and the merest hint of light partial toning to the free endpapers. A virtually fine copy in very slightly rubbed and chafed dust wrapper with the St. Martin's Press imprint price-sticker to the head of the front flap, and a trace of moisture rippling just about discernable. Bogus limitation statement printed to the copyright page, noting this as #83 of a limited edition of 212 copies (an identical statement is found in all examples). A very nice signed copy of this re-issue of Gorey's 1961 "pornographic illustrated story about furniture". The book of course is not even slightly pornographic yet somewhat bafflingly the German translation of 1966 was still banned in Austria for "stimulating lustfulness and misleading the sex drive" (which sounds like a statement Gorey could have penned).. Book. Book Condition: Near Fine. Binding: Hardcover. Jacket: Very Good
