Approx 1.5" vertical,oblong section to head of spine/backstrip missing,with virtually all lettering to book's title gone,but still approx 98% of dw/dj present though,reads worse than it actually is - described hard - but fairly and honestly.Copies with the scarce dw/dj uncommon,due in part to the nondescript appearance of the original brown paper lettered dw/dj,ephemeral in nature,which may have caused dw/dj to be easily and quickly discarded.Generally bright,clean, publisher's original red cloth bds with black,stamped ink letters and a bordered, black,stamped ink spiral staircase vignette to centre of upper bd,and a black,stamped ink illus of an overhead view of an independent circular newel stair with open string,to centre of spine/ backstrip.All corners minimally bumped with reciprocal creasing and cloth wrinkles/wrinkling to same,both head+foot of spine/backstrip also minimally bumped with reciprocal creasing to same,and generally clean,plain white/cream eps.Top edges lightly aged/toned - as usual/normal for age - fore-edges much less so affected and generally brighter and cleaner; contents bright,tight and clean.UK,Crown Qrto HB+dw/dj,1st edn,Pts I+II comprising (Pt I): v-xi+1-134pp [paginated] includes publisher's preface,contents list/table,23 chapters,profuse b/w line illus/diagrams/ plans in text,along with fold-out diagrammatical illus,76 monochrome photographs,a glossary (terms used in stairbuilding),indices to illus and text, plus [unpaginated] half-title+title pages, and a b/w monochrome photographic frntis.
