Authored by Bernard Fantus (1874-1940), a Hungarian Jewish-American physician. Notably, Fantus founded the first hospital blood bank in the United States in 1937. This blood bank was located at the Cook County Hospital of Chicago where Fantus also served as the director of the pharmacology and therapeutics department.
