Under the title, "The Narrative," Pages 3-12 contain a reprint of an extract from The World Encompassed by Sir Francis Drake, the first detailed account of Drake's 1577-1580 circumnavigation around the world. The account was first published in 1628 and was compiled by Sir Francis Drake, Baronet (Bart.), a nephew of the famed explorer who based the book off of notes taken by Francis Fletcher, one of the sailors on the circumnavigational voyage. In the extract, Fletcher describes the beautiful scenery in what is now Marin County, the amicable residents living there, and some of the cultural customs of the unnamed Indigenous tribe(s). The latter half of the book on Pages 13-23 is printed under the title, "Then and Now," and contains an extract from commentary about Flectcher's passage. The commentary was authored by Edmund Frank Green, whose facsimile signature appears on the last page of text as "E. F. Green."
