UK,18mo (Height 16cm x approx 12cm wide) HB,no dw/dj,as issued(?),1st edn.[Possibly a variant or misbound(?) issue - same colour but with flecks horizontally as opposed to vertically in other copies handled and noted elsewhere?] VG+.No owner inscrptn.Bright,crisp,clean - about 3 tiny blemishes to front,publisher's original and generally sharp-cornered,green flecked cloth boards/covers with blocked black ink illustration to lower front edge and blocked black lettering (title/author) to top edges, darkened spine/backstrip also with black lettering,rear board/cover undecorated,plain white eps; each set with verso+recto of both front+rear free endpapers with off-set shadowing from respective opposing front+rear pastedowns, both hinges solid and sound without any splits,tears or cracking.Negligible shelf-wear,bumping, creasing to edges and corners - corner tips minimally bumped with miniscule rubbing/fraying.Top edge coloured,fore-edges aged/toned but without foxing/ spotting; contents bright,tight, clean,solid and sound - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners,appears unread - apart from my own collation.Any discolouring or other imperfections commensurate with book's age.UK,18mo HB,no dw/dj,as issued(?),1st edn,vii-viiipp+1- 104pp [paginated] includes 3 sections; In France,In Canada and In Scotland comprising 6,2 and 8 contributions respectively,5 full-page b/w line illustrations by Hugh Munro interspersed throughout the text and the book,plus [unpaginated] a b/w seascape photographic illustrated frntis,title page,dedication, lightly foxed contents list/table with author's prefatory note to its reverse, individual section separator pages and 2pp blanks at the rear. Bright,clean and presentable item,this example has survived exceptionally well, particularly without any dw/dj and unusually,without the usual discolouration and other imperfections usually encountered or expected in a book of this age. Some of these sketches contributions have appeared already in 'The Glasgow Herald' and 'The Parent's Review',two were contributed to 'Bazaar books.',the remainder appear in print for the first time. Hugh Munro,RGI.(1873-1928).Born in Glasgow,23rd December 1873.A landscape, flower and genre painter and illustrator. He worked for Charles Mackie (1862-1920), preparing and cutting wood-blocks.He married Mabel Victoria Elliot (1885-1960), niece of the Earl of Minto,against opposition from her family on account of his impecuniousness.After Munro's death, she married the Kirkcudbright school painter W S MacGeorge and began to paint watercolours professionally.Among Munro's most sought after works were his sunlit, evocative beach scenes.His flower pieces are often effective,with rich colours and good technique,without being too showy.He also worked as an art critic for The Glasgow Herald.
