Signature on yellow paper by John Adam Kasson in black ink. Signed paper is adhered to beige card. No date, circa 1860s - 1910. Paper measures 3" x 1"; card measures 4 1/2" x 6 1/4." Paper reads: "John A. Kasson." Paper, signature, and card are very clean and intact. John Adam Kasson (1822-1910) was a lawyer from Iowa who became a politician and diplomat. He served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 1868-1872 and was elected six times to the U.S. House of Representatives between the years 1863-1884. In 1861, President Lincoln appointed Kasson as First Assistant Postmaster General. As a diplomat, Kasson traveled to European countries and regions such as Belgium, Great Britain, Germany, Sicily, and Switzerland to discuss postal conventions.. Manuscript.
