A speech originally delivered before the United States House of Representatives on July 27, 1848 by David S. Kaufman (1813-1851), an American lawyer and politician. Kaufman served as a representative in the Texas House of Representatives from 1838-1841, a senator in the Texas Senate from 1843-1845, and a U.S. Representative from Texas from 1846-1851. In this speech, Kaufman discusses the border dispute between New Mexico and the Republic of Texas following the Mexican-American War. He makes several arguments in support of where he believes the actual boundaries of Texas are and references various treaties between the Republic of Texas, the United States, and Mexico.. Book.
