A Contribution To The History Of The Jews In Southern Italy. ” “David Kaufmann (1852 –1899) was a Jewish-Austrian scholar born at Kojetķn, Moravia (now in the Czech Republic) . From 1861 to 1867 he attended the gymnasium at Kromerķ˛, Moravia, where he studied the Bible and Talmud with Jacob Brüll, rabbi of Kojetķn, and with the latter's son Nehemiah. ” (Wikipedia, 2016) Kaufmann was a prolific and influential thinker who wrote on many subjects including Philosophy of Religion, Art, and Jewish History. This was one of his last published works. It deals with the famous chronical of Ahimaaz ben Paltiel, “which, though intended merely to glorify his own immediate ancestors, gives much important information in regard to the history of the early Jewish settlements in such towns as Oria, Bari, Otranto, Gaeta, Benevento, Capua, Amalfi, in southern Italy, and Pavia in northern Italy. ” (Wikipedia, 2016) SUBJECT(S) : Jews -- Italy.
