First Edition (first printing). 8vo. 256pp. Russet cloth lettered in gold at the spine. Illustrated with a frontispiece and eleven drawings by L.S.Lowry - his only bookform contributions, aside from a few dust wrapper designs. Spine ends lightly rubbed, and with several tiny areas of minor discolouration where the dust wrapper is defective. Free endpapers very lightly spotted, and with a short score to the top edge. A sheet advertising Timperley's 'English Scenes and Birds' is tipped between pp.254-55, as issued. A very good copy in the uncommon dust wrapper, reproducing one of Lowry's drawings, the wrapper, alas, is price-clipped, tanned and chipped at the spine panel, and with some dust soiling, a little miscellaneous marking, and some slight chipping and wear to the upper edge.
