24 x 32 cms., with extended margin lower left to replace that removed to facilitate binding, no image loss. Very light browning at the exposed fold just showing through, otherwise fine

This map is of the strategic straits between Lake Huron and Lakes Michigan and Superior. Here the French had placed Forts and settlements of a kind to enable fur trading deep in Canadian territory. This map was published in the February 1761 issue of the 'London Magazine' and helped to illustrate the significance of this region. It is larger than the usual maps found in this work. Jolly, D.C. (Brit Per) LOND-197; Kershaw 965; Sellers & Van Ee #770 (not attributed).
