Pages are very clean and intact except for light age toning throughout, occasional foxing (mostly in front), slight offsetting from the text, and occasional pencil annotations. A Very Good copy. Authored anonymously by "a Layman" who has since been identified as John Lowell. As indicated by the title, this is a scathing critique of Calvinism in the United States and addresses such subjects as freedom of religion and separation of church and state. Lowell also discusses the theology of "liberal Christianity" with special emphasis on Unitarianism. Lowell directly responds to statements made in the Unitarian magazine, the Panoplist, and past correspondence between "Mr. Worcester" and "Mr. Channing.". Book. Book Condition: Very Good.
