In seven parts, about 75pp, printed in double columns, numerous illustrations and photos, including 1 color plate, and a full-page portrait of the author with facsimile signature, salvaged from damaged issues of Century Magazine, Volume LXXV, Nos. 1 - 2, November - December, 1907, and Nos. 4 - 6, February - April, 1908, and Volume LXXVI, Nos. 1 - 2, May - June, 1908. In this scientifically controversial book, the astronomer, who was director of the Lowell Observatory, Flagstaff, Arizona, presents and reviews the scientific evidence behind his theory that life existed on Mars. Illustrations include the photographic apparatus at the Lowell Observatory, meteorites from Diablo Canyon, Arizona, multiple views of the moon and mars, the Amherst telescope in position at Alianza, Chile, a model of a Brontosaurus in the American Museum of Natural History, numerous fossils, specimens of deep sea fish, views of the Solis Lacus region of Mars, the north and south polar caps of Mars, etc. This item also includes a short piece, Photographing Mars, by E. C. Slipher. The book would be published later in 1908, curiously, not by Century, but by The Macmillan Company, New York. Segments are housed in protective mylar report cover. Scarce.. Book.
