Morris purchased a lot with an alleyway behind just off Center Square on Broadway near Chambers Street. The purchase price was $3,330.. James Morris was the son of American landowner and developer Lewis Morris, who was a signer of U.S. Declaration of Independence as a delegate to the Continental Congress from New York. G.W. Bleecker, MYS Assemblyman, was the son of Leonard Bleeker, Revolutionary War veteran, NYS Assemblyman, and personal friend of General George Washington.
