Oakland-Alameda Chamber of Commerce : Original Philatelic Ephemera - Military Cover (Envelope) Commemorating the Arrival of the USF Constitution to Oakland, California, September 1933

Original military cover (envelope) on beige paper with two commemorative cachets on front and back. The front cachet is an illustration printed in blue ink showing an aerial view of the Port of Oakland. The back cachet is a purple stamp on back showing a ship with the text, "Oakland Welcomes U.S.F. Constitution, September 15 to 29, 1933." Envelope is unused and has no address or postage stamps. 6 1/2" x 3 1/2." Former owner's signed subscription order (one leaf of paper) laid in envelope. Envelope is virtually pristine and intact except for age toning and two bands of offsetting on back from the original glue on the flaps. A Near Fine copy. This envelope and its cachets commemorate the arrival of the United States Frigate (USF) to Oakland, California in September 1933. The following text is also printed around the front illustration of the port: "U.S. Bureau of Public Roads, District No. 2; U.S. Forest Service Supply Depot; Dedicated by Oakland-Alameda Chamber of Commerce, Sept. 23, 1933; United States Coast Guard, Coast Guard Section Base 11.".
