Some moderate foxing; occasional light soiling; short tear to margin of facsimile map, repaired with archival tape. Good to very good condition. (Mendelssohn I, p. 129; Czech, p. 211) "A recounting of the famous African explorer's life by his son, based on Oswell's letters and journal entries. Volume One includes Oswell's early life in South Africa, and describes his encounters with vast herds of buffalo near the Limpopo River and elephant near the Zouga River. He also collected hippopotamus and rhinoceros, and describes losing horses to buffalo and rhino attacks.
