In this sermon, Parker speaks about the inherent evils of slavery and the damage it does to society. Parker makes several arguments in favor of abolition including a contrast between the ideals of American democracy and the corruption of societies past in the time of "vicariousness" and "barbarism." He says that the institution of slavery is inherently degrading to the slave in response to erroneous arguments of the time that suggest slavery somehow uplifts the slave. He also says that slavery is detrimental to industry, economics, politics, the arts, literature, education, and religion and explains why. Parker further states that slavery is contrary to the principles of American democracy and is "destined to ruin.". Book. Book Condition: Good. Binding: Soft cover
