In 1938, he returned to the Hebrew University as an instructor. In 1945, he founded the Palestine Institute of Folklore and Ethnology, and in 1947 Palestine for the US, where he taught at Dropsie College and Farleigh Dickinson University. He also worked at the Herzl Institute. His scholarship centered on two topics, ancient Jewish culture, and the modern Middle East.
