One black and white illustration on title page, complete. Three additional pages of advertisements for other books in the back. A small slip is laid in advertising other books as well. Former ownership inscription on front free endpaper in purple ink: "Ella E. Gregg[?], 1876." Pages and covers are very clean and intact. Binding is tight. A few light, white stains on front cover. Referenced in Wright II as no. 1942. A book about an older woman who ruminates on her life and Christian themes. This book is very similar to Rose Porter's other novels which often have a meditative, sentimental tone and a Christian perspective. Chapters are named after the times of day: "Day-Dawn, " "Morning," "Noon," "Afternoon," and "Even-Tide." Excerpt from Page 1: "I, Janet Sterling Flint, an old woman now--think! my wedding-day is well-nigh fifty years by-gone--have consented, at the solicitation of my children and grandchildren, to pen out for them some brief record of my life; consented to gather up memories that stretch away back into my childhood, and on through my youthful days--on even to this time of old age--though the defining them will, I fear me, be as vague a task as the striving to define when within the heart love first woke into conscious being, or when thoughts first began.".
