This is a tract containing the counterargument of Josiah Quincy against George Bancroft (1800-1891), an American historian and politician. Quincy was the editor of The History of the United States of North America (1836) which was authored by James Grahame (1790-1842), a Scottish historian. Quincy published this tract in response to Bancroft's defamatory comments made against Quincy and Grahame for their work in The History of the United States. Much of Bancroft's criticism appears to have questioned Quincy and Grahame's honesty and the veracity of their historical account. Quincy makes several counterarguments deflecting such blame and defends his and Grahame's book as well as the character of Grahame who had passed away about four years before the publication of this tract.. Book. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: Soft cover
