Quiroz, F. V.; Quiroz, Emilia : Autograph Letter Signed and Envelope - F. V. and Emilia Quiroz

Handwritten in Spanish. Original letter handwritten in blue ink on beige lined paper. Datelined September 16, 1911 in Douglas, Arizona. 7 3/4" x 10 1/2." Two pages, complete. Paper and handwriting are very clean and intact. Three horizontal and vertical fold lines (perhaps original) and a few faint spots. Upper-right corner has a small closed tear and the corner taken off; text is unaffected. Signed, "F. V. Quiroz y Emilia." In this letter, "F. V." writes to Clara Cordis and Carmen Moore in Tuscon, Arizona and talks about what is happening within their families. There appears to have been some mishap involving their children, and F. V. speaks to Clara and Carmen with concern, yet also hope, reassurance, and sympathy about the situation. There is mention of a marriage. An original envelope is included, addressed to "Mr. Thomas Cordis" (possibly the husband of Carmen). The envelope was mailed using a red and white, two-cent U.S. postage stamp showing an illustrated portrait of George Washington in side profile framed by two olive branches. This stamp is a 1908 issue and part of the Washington-Franklin series issued between 1908 and 1922. The simple designs of this series were the direct result of past criticisms of stamps issued between 1902 and 1903 for being "too opulent" in design. The red, two-cent Washington stamp was the very first to be issued in the Washington-Franklin series which debuted on November 16, 1908. The next one to follow was a green, one-cent stamp showing Benjamin Franklin which was issued on December 2, 1908. The stamp of Washington on the envelope has a Douglas, Arizona postmark.. Manuscript. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good. Binding: No Binding
