the author's first book, published when he was 30, this was the book that established his reputation. rarely found in first edition and more so in the original jacket. the jacket is marked and worn with a small chip out of the bottom of the spine and a small panel removed in the center of the spine. there are other edge tears and the back is marked. the spine of the book has been carefully repaired. the boards are marked and there is a lengthy gift inscription on the front end page. some age related marks in the book. the binding is strong.
