Two black-and-white illustrations (facsimile letter and portrait of the author), complete. Pages are very clean and intact. Binding is tight. Pages have the occasional mark and slight wrinkling at the extremities. Staples slightly rusted. A Very Good copy. A brief article about Belle Boyd (1844-1900), a Confederate spy, and the letter she had sent to Abraham Lincoln. Facsimile of her letter printed on inside of first page. In her letter to Lincoln, Boyd threatens to release her book of war-time experiences, which supposedly contains unsavory details of the federal government (Union)'s doings, if her husband, S. Wilde Harbinge, then imprisoned at Fort Delaware, is not released. Author Louis A. Sigaud discusses the contents of her letter and what, if any, actions were taken by government officials as a result of her letter. Brief biography of Sigaud and an advertisement for Sigaud's book, Belle Boyd, Confederate Spy, printed on back.
