Collection of three original tax receipts printed and handwritten in black ink on beige and blue paper. 1866-1868. 1866 receipt: 8" x 4 1/2." 1867 receipt: 8 1/2" x 7 1/2." 1868 receipt: 7 3/4" x 5." Each of the receipts is clean and intact overall except for some wrinkling, a few fold lines, slight age toning, and slight wear to extremities. The blue 1866 receipt has a few small stains and slight splitting at center and the left and right edges; the most significant split begins from the left edge and measures about 1 1/2." The 1866 and 1867 receipts are Very Good, the 1868 receipt is Near Fine, and the entire collection is Very Good. These three tax receipts verify that Isaac Signor of Oroville, Butte County, California paid his taxes on his property for the years 1866, 1867, and 1868. The tax categories are "Real Estate," "Improvements," "Personal Property," "Property Tax," and "Dog Tax." For each year, Signor paid taxes for real estate and personal property and the dog tax. Each receipt is signed by the Butte County tax collector. The tax collector for years 1866 and 1867 was C. S. Pond. The tax collector for 1868 was Thomas M. Danil (or, Danel).. Ephemera.
