Sills, Milton : Publicity Photograph "Milton Sills"

Publicity photo (5 x 7 inch) of Sills sitting, b/w, during the 1920s with printed signature. Milton Sills (1882-1930) was a stage and film actor from Chicago. From a wealthy family he first became a professor at the University of Chicago and then in 1905 became a stage actor. Starred in a dozen plays on Broadway between 1908 and 1912. In 1914 he starred in "The Pit" an instant hit and began acting full time in silent films as a freelance actor starring opposite many of the leading actresses of the time including Gloria Swanson. His most famous and successful movie was "The Sea Hawk" (1924). Along with 36 other leading actors of Hollywood he helped found The Academy of Movie Pictures Arts and Sciences in 1927. Sills last silent film was THE SEA WOLF (1930). Tho he made several early talking pictures his career was cut short by a heart attack playing tennis. Sills has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame..
