The First English-language edition of de Beauvoir's celebrated existential novel of the French Resistance, written between 1941-43 and originally published by Gallimard in 1945, three year before this English translation. 8vo. 228pp. Red cloth lettered and ruled in gold at the spine. The tip of one corner knocked, and with several tiny slivers of fading to the cloth at the upper margins. Free endpapers spotted and lightly toned. A very good copy in the Victor Reinganum designed surrealist dust wrapper, which is non-price-clipped but somewhat nicked, chipped, torn and edgeworn. Uncommon, and much more so with the dust wrapper albeit this is perhaps not the nicest example.. Book. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: Hardcover.
