Measures 8 x 9 inches. 239 pages, covers lightly worn in overall Very Good condition and illustrated with many interesting full-page as well as in-text illustrations in avant-garde style. The author and artist, Nina Simonovich-Efimova ( 1877 - 1948) was a Russian painter and puppet-theater designer. She was among the first group of professional women painters in Russia along with Elena Polenova, Mariya Yakunchikova and was alos a member of the Abramtsevsky circle. Next to Nataliya Goncharova, Lyubov Popova, Olga Rozanova and Alexandra Ekster she was among the "Amazons of Avang-Guard" fighting for artistic equality. The Russians are very proud of their Kukolniy Theatre, or Puppet theatre. The Russian book was condensed and first translated into English in 1935 and published by Puppetry Imprints in Birmingham, MI. Scarce first Russian edition. In fragile brown wrappers with small pieces missing from the front and rear covers. Overall condition: Good. Scans available upon request.. Book Condition: Good
