20-page booklet, previously bound. Thomas Sprat (1635 - 1713) was a prominent churchman, at the time of the writing of this letter he was the Bishop of Rochester. This letter is written to Charles Sackville, the 6th Earl of Dorset (1638-1706). In this letter, Rev. Sprat delineates his association with the Ecclesiastical Commission of 1686, which was set up by King James II in order to steer the country towards Roman Catholicism.
