Original publisher's green cloth binding with gilt letting on front cover and spine. 4 3/4" x 7." 108 pages, complete. Purple stamp of the San Francisco Portrait & Art Co. on verso of title page. Several handwritten signatures of the company's manager, A. H. Appel (one is dated "10-3-1890"), and stamped facsimiles of his signature appear throughout the book. Several notes are handwritten in ink, but all appear in the margins with the exception of a few at the top of the first page of Chapter I. Pages and covers are very clean and intact. Binding is tight. A book on the chemical and artistic properties of different pigments used in paints, how to produce specific colors, and which colors are used for different types of painting. Index in back.
