No. 136, not issued, no stamps or signatures. The Michigan Central Railroad Company was originally incorporated in 1846 to provide freight service from Detroit to St. Joseph, Michigan, where freight could be transferred to a ship for transport to Chicago. The company later decided to extend their rail line to Chicago, and this was completed in 1852. The Michigan Central Railroad Company eventually included lines through Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and Ontario, Canada. After 1867, it was controlled by the New York Central.. Book.
