488 pages (complete). Stormonth is best known for his dictionaries on the English language, particularly its etymology. This RARE copy of his Dictionary of Scientific Terms shows this providential genealogy. There is much emphasis on pronunciation, original definitions (e.g. the inclusion of the Greek goddess Daphne and the consequent uses). Scarring on spine. The dictionary is also very much of its time. Chemistry and Physics were not the major areas of research and interest. Rather it was the natural world and the discoveries still being made on a dizzying scale with the Empire growing by the efforts of the sons of landowners and clergy. This a fascinating, contented, competent book. The cover is much worn from storage. The faces are worn and scuffed. The spine is worn to head and foot but is secure and spritely.
