May 1940 - in twenty days the Germanic forces destroyed the sovereign independence of Holland and Belgium together with their armies,overbore and forced to retreat to the coast a magnificent Anglo-French force consisting of a group of 20 divisions numbering some 500,000 men,broke through the formidable defences which extended the Maginot Line along the Belgian frontier,and captured a large part of the most important industrial and coal-mining regions of France.
More important still,these same Germanic forces established themselves on the coasts of Holland,Belgium and Northern France together with all their ports and aerodromes as far south as Abbeville at the mouth of the Somme.
