Strong, Henry Partridge (1832 - 1883) : Portrait Photograph with Facsimile Signature

Circa 1900, sized 6 x 9.5 inches, on heavy gloss paper, generally very clean and bright. The author, b. Brownington, Vermont, was a physician and politician from Wisconsin. He graduated from Castleton, Vermont, Medical College in 1853, and shortly after his graduation moved to Wisconsin, settling in Beloit where he set up a medical practice. During the Civil War, Strong served as surgeon, 11th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, 1861 - 1863, and was later promoted to surgeon-in-chief, 14th Division of the 13th Army Corps, Army of the Tennessee. Following the war, he returned to his practice in Beloit, and also became prominent in local politics. A Republican, he served several terms as mayor of Beloit, and was its postmaster from 1870 - 1883. Strong was also active in the Wisconsin State Medical Society, and from 1876 until his death was a member of the Wisconsin state board of health. 0. Print. Book Condition: VG. Binding: No Binding
