Original publisher's leaflet printed in black and red ink on light beige paper. No date, circa 1883. 2 1/2" x 4." One leaf of paper printed on front and back. Leaflet is clean and intact overall but has moderate wrinkling throughout (paper is relatively fragile), a few small creases, a few tiny spots of rubbing affecting a minimal amount of text (mostly affects "Co." in "The Century Co."), and two tiny spots of discoloration. A Good copy. This is a promotional leaflet advertising one of the Christmas Numbers of St. Nicholas Magazine, a children's magazine that was published from 1873-1940. Its first editor was Mary Mapes Dodge. In 1943, the magazine was briefly revived but permanently ceased publication after four issues. The ad lists some of this issue's features which include Louisa May Alcott's "Grandmamma's Pearls," "The Field of the Cloth of Gold," a fairy story by Frank R. Stockton, "Coasting on Lake Winnipeg," and an "Alphabet of Children" (an illustrated extract from the alphabet is printed on verso in red ink). Text on front printed in black ink. Based on this issue's contents listed in the ad, the advertised issue may be the Christmas Number of 1883.. Ephemera. Book Condition: Good.
