THIRKELL, Angela : Wild Strawberries and High Rising (Slipcased Set)

Knopf, NY, 1951

Covers, pastedowns, endpapers, page edges, and brown kraft paper dust wrappers very foxed. Spine ends and corners of High Rising bumped and lightly worn (not to boards). Dust wrappers a bit edgeworn, dw on HR once in pieces, now repaired with archival tape but 3" portion at top of spine missing. Dust wrappers have not been put in mylar covers as the protective covers put too much strain on the slipcase. The illustrated slipcase has some repaired seams at top and bottom, is slightly sunned and soiled, and has some skinned areas on spine. ; The slip case is wonderfully decorated by Cosgrave II who did several of the beautiful US edition dust wrappers for AT titles. In WS we are introduced to the endearing and maddening Lady Emily Leslie of Rushwater House and the rest of her charming family. Rushwater is believed to be based on Stanway House in Gloucestershire. HR is our introdution to Laura Morland, the writer of 'rather good bad novels', her son Tony, and many other beloved Barsetshire characters., 265+282 pages, Very Good in Good dust wrapper
