A cookbook that is built on the approach that eating certain foods prepared the "right" way will maximize one's lifespan and happiness. Authored by dietician J. Douglas Thompson of Oakland, California with assistance by his wife, Mrs. J. Douglas Thompson. Please note: the scientific validity behind at least some parts of Thompson's dieting regimen in this book is uncertain. For example, Thompson argues that foods should not be cooked for a long time because he says it depletes their nutritional content. He similarly claims that foods should neither be boiled nor stewed. However, many of the recipes herein do allow (and require, in some cases) cooking. Other parts of Thompson's regimen are also more scientifically sound such as eating natural, not processed, foods. Thompson begins the cookbook with an introductory guide to his selection of proper foods and how to prepare them He is adamantly opposed to the use of conventional condiments, sauces, vinegar, and like ingredients because he believes they interfere with digestion. Also included are brief sections on combining one's foods correctly and how food in digested in the body. There are also example menus of the "Eating Your Way to Health" regimen. Most of the book comprises the "Eating Your Way to Health" recipes. Many of the recipes that involve cooking do not have specific times or temperatures listed. Specific measures of ingredients are listed. The following are the main categories of recipes contained herein: Soups, Salad Dressings, Salads, Vegetables, Sauces, Chafing Dishes, Meats, Fish, Poultry, Pastry, Sandwiches, Cereals, Beverages, Confections, Desserts, and Tonics. Other information includes a "Vegetable Time Table," caloric values of foods, the time required for certain foods to be digested, and "Food Value Charts." The following are three example recipes: "Bran Cookies; 1/3 cup mazola, 3/4 cup natural sugar, 2 1/2 cups bran, 1/4 cup chopped figs or raisins, 2 eggs 2 tablespoons cream, 2 teaspoons baking powder; Mix dry ingredients, add other liquids and eggs beaten lightly. Roll thin and bake slowly." "Special Peanut Butter Sandwiches; Butter the bread, spread half the slices with vegex or savita and the other half with peanut butter. Place crisp lettuce leaves between these, add a small amount of mayonnaise and press the slices together firmly." "Thompson Miracle Drink; To the juice of two large grapefruit add one pound of chopped spinach. Allow to stand over night. Strain and add one tablespoon of honey and the juice of two lemons. Use several times daily as a between-meal beverage.". Book. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: Soft cover
